Why is it a good practice of the Person-Centered Model?
The project establishes support centres for students with disabilities and strategic inclusion plans in each partner university, based on the specific needs of their student body and incorporating assistive technologies. It also provides training for institutional staff, strengthening their skills and capacities so that universities become more inclusive and more aware of their social responsibility towards students with disabilities. In addition, the project gave rise to the International MUSE Network, a sustainable regional network that remains active, influencing public policies and promoting the active participation of students with disabilities in university life and in their educational and employment pathways.
Integrated Assessment (Person, Family, Housing) and Life History
Systematic identification and analysis of the needs of students with disabilities in higher education.
Personalised Care and Support Plan for the Life Project
Design and implementation of tailored solutions, adaptations, access to support services and guidance to ensure students’ access, retention and full participation in university life, with continuous monitoring.
Support groups
Collaborative groups involving teaching and administrative staff, as well as internal student networks that take part in awareness-raising and inclusion activities.
Case Management and Resource Coordinator
Partnerships between universities in Latin America and Europe; network-based work through the International MUSE Network and shared mechanisms for ongoing monitoring and evaluation.
Highlined results
The MUSE project strengthened inclusive higher education in Chile, Mexico and Argentina by creating or reinforcing Disabled Student Support Centres and equipping them with assistive technologies. It produced a Needs Analysis Report, a Training Handbook and a Good Practice Guide that helped build the capacities of academic and administrative staff to support students with disabilities. The project also established the MUSE International Network, which continues to promote cooperation, public policies and awareness-raising actions for the inclusion and employability of students with disabilities in Latin American HEIs.
